Unless they can answer that question well, be very careful about investing in such startups,” says Rahul Agarwalla, Managing Partner of SenseAI, in LetsVenture’s Angel Investing Masterclass on evaluating AI startups. Rahul goes on to talk about the parameters that are crucial in evaluating AI startups for angel investments. He believes that AI startups should be data-rich and tech-advanced. “They must address critical problems through AI and should have a clear approach to venture into target markets,” he adds. Rahul’s colleague and fellow Managing Partner, Vinish Kathuria, was a part of the masterclass too. He says, “A pure AI-play startup requires the ability of the founder team to convince the developers in the ecosystem to leverage the platform. It requires a good amount of convincing and experience on how to evangelize and get the developers on to the ecosystem.” Vinish mentions that the gestation period of pure-play AI startups is, therefore, more than that of general startups. Rahul and Vinish have over 10 years of experience in the US working with top tech players in different capacities. Through SenseAI, their AI venture fund, they work side-by-side with AI startup founders from the initial stages to co-create their venture and provide support in funding, product development, and go-to-market.
