LetsIgnite - India’s largest and foremost angel conference took place on 10th and 11th March 2016, in Bangalore at ITC Gardenia. This was LetsVenture’s second successful angel conference in the past 2 years.

The sessions on day one, kickstarted with a track on “Emergence of Investors in secondary locations” (tier 2 cities). Speakers who hosted this track include, Ravi Gururaj, Founder & CEO QikPod, Munish Jauhar Founder and CEO GreyCell Technologies, Dr. Jayasankar Prasad CEO Kerala Startup Mission, Abhishek Rungta Founder and CEO Indus Net Technologies and Munir Thakor Founder and Director Silicon Computech P. This session set the ball rolling and prepared the audience for the sessions that would follow i.e. ‘The Tipping Point’ which functioned as a Primer on Angel Investing. This interactive session was hosted by Sharad Sharma, Co -Founder iSpirit and Shekhar Kirani, Partner at Accel Partners. It aimed at empowering new angels with the knowledge, strategies and advice that would make their angel investing journey easier as well as help them make more informed decisions during their journey.
Post-session feedback from the audience revealed that the session served as more than just a mere ‘Primer’, rather gave them an in depth insight into what it takes to become a part of the angel investing ecosystem. We have decided to share the deck with you.
Below is a brief summary of what the session covered:
Tipping Point | Angel Investing Made Easy, The angel investing workshop that aims to help new angels understand the angel investing ecosystem, the best practices, the risks involved, etc. from experienced investors Sharad Sharma and Shekhar Kirani.
- What do you need to be successful as an angel investor?
- How do successful angels build a portfolio?
- How to pick winners?
These were just some of the questions that the speakers addressed in this first of it’s kind workshop. A panel discussion with investors from Tier-2 cities (Session on emergence of investors in Tier 2 cities) helped understand how the ecosystem was shaping up in those cities.
The primer covered 5 mantras for success in relation to angel investing in India
- Start with play money
- Not a momentum play
- Game of building not picking winners
- Plan your portfolio
- Build your investment strategies
This was followed by a discussion on one of the biggest challenges investors face during the investing process i.e. the Process of deal flow. The speakers spoke about how platforms such as ours are working on solving this issue and how a new angel can engage with LetsVenture to tackle this challenge during their journey. They then discussed, getting the mechanics such as convertibles, VC seed rounds and Lead incentive right.
Other topics that were discussed as part of the session include, the Term Sheet, Post Investment (Cadence, priorities and style etc) as well as what to avoid doing as an angel investor.
Below is the presentation that covers the session in some more depth.
